The Journey Of A Drop
A drop of rain falls
onto a leaf,
and suddenly,
the green awakens.
It follows the paths of the veins,
tracing invisible roads
that carry life
toward the earth.
It slips from leaf to leaf,
gathers at the edge of a petal,
and falls gently
along the stem of a flower
feeding what is yet to bloom.
The drop keeps moving.
It dances through the flight of a bird,
following the movement of its wings,
searching for a place to land.
It falls upon the skin of the anaconda,
and for a moment
its scales hold the sky
each drop becoming a small mirror
of the living forest.
It travels down the vines of the ayahuasca,
where water becomes growth.
Where roots reach deeper
and leaves reach toward the light.
Then, beneath the trees,
the jaguar watches.
Through the veil of rain,
its eyes see beyond the drops,
into the unfolding of another day.
Will the sun clear the sky?
Will the clouds move on?
The jaguar waits.
And the rain continues.
One drop becomes another,
and another becomes the river,
the root,
the flower,
the leaf.
Perhaps tomorrow,
the sun will return
and more leaves will open,
waiting for the next drop
to begin its journey again.
